Dachshunds are an adorable breed with an independent and brave spirit. Those are some of the same traits that make dachshunds hard to train. "Dachsies" are little dogs with big-dog attitudes.

    Significance

  1. Take charge early. If you don't let your dachshund know who is boss, he will take the job.
  2. Features

  3. Dachshunds don't have much fear; protect them with firm, loving training.
  4. Time Frame

  5. Housebreaking will be a challenge for a puppy or an adult dachshund that has not been living in a home. Plan to spend at least two or three weeks on intense training.
  6. Effects

  7. Dachshunds need exercise. Take him on walks, but keep leash use fun. He will resist initially, but he will eventually grow to love going on walks.
  8. Considerations

  9. Puppies 8 to 12 weeks old eat four times daily. At 3 to 6 months, go to three meals. From 6 months to 1 year, feed a dachshund twice daily. At one year, your dog can eat one bigger meal or split it into two smaller meals.
  10. Expert Insight

  11. Crate training is great for young dachshunds that aren't housebroken yet and older dogs that may have separation anxiety.
