Birth control allows you to be in control of when you get pregnant. Your health, how often you have sex, and the side effects of each method are some factors to consider when choosing a method of birth control.

    Birth Control Pills

  1. Birth control pills release hormones into a woman's body to stop the release of eggs. If used correctly, the pill is very effective. Many types of birth control pills are available through prescriptions.
  2. Birth Control Shot

  3. Depo-Provera is delivered by injection once every three months. The shot releases hormones that stop the production of eggs. A prescription is required.
  4. Condoms

  5. Condoms are a popular form of birth control because they are easy to use and they help protect against sexually transmitted diseases. Condoms can be purchased at your local pharmacy.
  6. Birth Control Implants

  7. Implanon is a rod that is approximately the size of a matchstick. It is implanted under the skin of your arm. This releases hormones into the body to stop the production of eggs. The implant will last for three years. It can be removed if you decide you want to get pregnant. A health care professional has to insert the implant.
  8. Abstinence

  9. Abstinence is the safest and most effective birth control method. By not engaging in sexual intercourse, you avoid pregnancy and the chance of getting a sexually transmitted disease.
