Danger of Using Frontline for Fleas

Many pet owners use a product called Frontline to treat and prevent flea and tick infestation of dogs and cats.

Frontline is a leader in flea and tick control for dogs and cats. Frontline is administered topically and is available without a prescription. It can be purchased at pet stores such as PetSmart.

Ingredients

One of the active ingredients in Frontline is fipronil--a pesticide. The makers of Frontline do not disclose many of the "inactive" ingredients of Frontline on the packaging.

Function

The pesticide in Frontline works by paralyzing the flea or tick's nervous system, leading to the death of the parasite.

Side Effects

Dogs and cats treated with Frontline may experience skin irritation at the site of application.

Warning

One of the active ingredients in Frontline is poisonous. It should never be left where pets can ingest it. Never use the product on a kitten or puppy under eight weeks of age. Pet owners considering Frontline should be aware that the long-term effects of constant use have not been studied.
