What Are Seashells Used For?

If you love to make your own crafts, sea shells are great to use for projects. They can be purchased inexpensively, or can be found in coastal areas. They are beautiful, durable, come in a variety of looks and can be used for simple crafts or to create challenging show pieces.

Display

One simple use for seashells is to place them in a glass jar, bowl, vase or basket. Set them out on a table or a bathroom counter for an easy, beautiful display.

Heat-proof

A large half clam shell can be converted into an ashtray simply by turning it over. It can also hold a tea or votive candle, or you can put sand or salt in it and set incense charcoal upon it to burn.

Framing

Seashells can be used to embellish any frame that houses a photo, mirror or artwork. They are easily mounted to metal, wood, glass or plastic with a hot glue gun.

Planter

Large conch shells can be converted into miniature planters. Fill the opening with an air plant such as Brachycaulos clump, jucunda, or Belize bulbosa and mist them occasionally.

Outdoors

Seashells can be used as borders to line driveways and planting beds. They can be pushed into plaster or concrete when making decorative stepping stones or paths. They can be pressed into plaster or concrete walls for accents.
