- If the basket is highly decorative, look for items in a similar color or pattern to keep your gift looking neat and put-together. Be creative; use a tote, crate, hatbox or diaper bag to serve as the basket.
- For a plain basket, line it with a soft fabric or a receiving blanket to showcase and hold the other gifts. Add curling ribbon to the handle or tie a hanging baby toy from the center of the handle for an added gift. Ask the mom-to-be what color her nursery is and use those colors in your gifts.
- If your basket is holding one main gift such as a stuffed animal, diaper bag or box of formula, surround it with smaller related items. Add teething rings, pacifiers, bottles, diaper bag accessories or smaller toys around the outside of the main item.
- Make a baby bath gift basket with rubber ducks, bath mitts and baby shampoo, and present it in a baby bathtub in a cute color. Roll a dozen infant outfits into attractive arrangements tied with ribbon, stack favorite baby books in graduated sizes or create a baby-proofing gift basket with outlet plugs, cabinet closures and other safety gear.
- For a change, focus on the mom-to-be with new nail polishes, perfumes, and some spa-style bath salts and bubble baths for after her delivery. A treat basket full of chocolates, candies or fine cheese and crackers also benefits mom and dad.
