Natural Herbs That Heal Inflammation

Almost everyone has experienced some form of inflammation. Inflammation is a normal and healthy response by the body to an injury or infection. A typical example is when you receive a cut and the injury becomes red and feels hot to the touch because the body is fighting infection. A fever is another common example of widespread inflammation. However, a condition like arthritis is an example of inflammation that is out of control and needs some form of treatment. There are herbs that can be effective for this purpose.

  1. White Willow

    • White willow, usually taken in a tea form, exerts an anti-inflammatory and pain relieving effect. It is made from the bark and leaves of white willow trees or shrubs.

    Boswellia

    • The acids extracted from the resin of the boswellia tree have anti-inflammatory properties that can be likened to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Advil or Motrin.

    Ginger

    • Ground ginger root has been known for its anti-inflammatory properties for centuries. It can be taken in a tea or capsule form.

    Licorice

    • The ground root of licorice is also a well-known anti-inflammatory, though it can lead to increased blood pressure. Dosages vary by product and manufacturer recommendations should be followed.

    Turmeric

    • Considered a spice by many, turmeric exerts a potent anti-inflammatory effect. It is sold as both a spice and in capsule form specifically for medicinal usage.
