Smoked salmon is a heart-healthy, versatile dish great for any meal of the day. Salmon is notorious for losing freshness fast, but smoked salmon comes cooked and packaged, giving it the ability to store longer while still maintaining that smoky flavor.

    Refrigeration

  1. Smoked salmon will keep in the fridge for two to three weeks as long as it has not been opened.
  2. Freezing

  3. Smoked salmon will last in the freezer for up to three months tightly packaged. If the package is not airtight, the fish will dry out.
  4. After opening

  5. Once the salmon has been opened and used in a meal, it generally has four to six days before it is spoiled.
  6. Storing Tips

  7. When storing salmon, keep the fish as cold as possible. Storing in the bottom drawer of your fridge or in the back of your freezer near the ice is ideal.
  8. Testing

  9. Always check the expiration label on the packaging. Smell the fish if you are unsure whether or not it has expired. If the fish smells even slightly of ammonia or any other rotten smell, throw it away.
