Chevy Silverado Z71 Vs. 1500

Save

Chevrolet's full-size 1/2-ton truck is the Silverado 1500. Chevrolet also produces an off-road package that is available on this model called the Z71.

Significance

  • The Chevy 1500 series of trucks are 1/2-ton rated for light duty hauling. When the Z71 package is included it becomes a more versatile truck.

Function

  • The Z71 package includes four-wheel drive for off-road driving. This also gives the truck a higher suspension to have more ground clearance and work better in muddy or wet conditions.

Features

  • The 1500 is available with a V6 or V8 engine and your choice of a regular, extended or crew cab. The Z71 package has a V8 engine and gas shocks, which decrease the rough ride associated with a four-wheel drive. It also has stabilizer bars, which help keep the vehicle in an upright position when climbing or going down uneven surfaces.

Identification:

  • The Z71 package can be identified by the fog lamps on the front below the headlights and also by a sticker on the bed, which has the Z71 logo and is usually in red.

Considerations:

  • The Chevy 1500 gets high ratings for crash tests and gas mileage, but when adding the Z71 package with four-wheel drive, you will sacrifice some fuel economy. If you like to go off-roading and mudding then the Z71 package is a good value.
