Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). While infection is often a result of sexual intercourse, it can also be passed from one person to the next by skin-to-skin contact. Regardless of how the virus is transmitted, exposure can cause a male to suffer from certain symptoms.
For some men, it is possible to experience no symptoms of genital herpes at all. It may take years for them to suffer symptoms of the condition.
For others, an infection may start out with some level of itching in the area of exposure, such as the penis, testicles, anus or even thighs, sometimes in as little as a few weeks after contracting the virus.
It is also possible for a man to experience a certain amount of pain in these same areas. This pain may be subtle-to-pronounced in nature and may manifest in as little as a few weeks after contracting the virus.
Many times, a case of genital herpes causes a male to experience blisters along the area of exposure.
As the outbreak persists, some men develop small sores or ulcerations along the same area of the body.
