Symptoms of the MRSA Flu

MRSA is short for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It is resistant to most antibiotics. MRSA may mimic other illnesses such as the flu, and appear to look like pimples, which makes it hard to diagnose. People may not realize that they even have MRSA because of the flu like symptoms that they have. MRSA is spread through direct contact rather than it being airborne. Individuals may prevent MRSA by keeping clean hands, always wearing shoes, and covering any open wounds. If you believe that you may have been exposed to MRSA, seek medical help from your doctor.

    Small Red Bump

  1. MRSA may begin with a small red bump that appears to look like a pimple, boil, or bug bite. It will eventually turn red and become enlarged and painful. The bump often lasts longer than a regular pimple or bug bite.
  2. Flu-like Symptoms

  3. An individual infected with MRSA will have flu like symptoms such as vomiting and fever.
  4. Areas Found on the Body

  5. MRSA can appear as a rash on the body in areas like the arms, legs, underarms, buttocks and groin.
  6. Low Blood Pressure and Joint Pain

  7. An individual infected with MRSA will also experience low blood pressure and joint pain.
  8. Headaches and Shortness of Breath

  9. Someone who may have MRSA may experience a severe headache and shortness of breath.
