IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome, is a digestive disorder that causes problems in normal bowel movements. The symptoms are cramping, irregular bowel movements, diarrhea, bloating, constipation and gas. There are natural herbs that can help ease the symptoms of IBS.

    Peppermint Oil

  1. Peppermint oil can be used to treat the pain and bloating caused by IBS. Peppermint is a carminative herb. This means it can be used to eliminate excess gas in the intestines.
  2. Slippery Elm

  3. Slippery elm has been used for many years by the Native American Indians to treat many health conditions. Slippery elm can calm irritation caused by IBS because it coats the intestinal lining. Slippery elm is a tree extract that is often used in powder form to treat IBS.
  4. Amalaki

  5. Amalaki can be used to treat constipation caused by IBS. It also has a positive effect on overall digestion. Amalaki is a tree found in Asia where its extract is used for medicinal purposes such as treating a cough, eating disorders, skin diseases and tumors.
  6. Triphala

  7. Triphala is a combination of three fruits; these three fruits are from the bibhataki tree, haritaki tree and the amalaki tree. Besides its laxative effects, it also can ease abdominal pain and bloating.
  8. Chamomile

  9. Chamomile can be used to decrease inflammation and ease spasms in the stomach due to IBS. You can drink chamomile as a tea and or take it in capsule form.
  10. Berry Leaf Tea

  11. Berry leaf tea can be made from blueberry, blackberry and raspberry leaves. These herbal teas can reduce inflammation and ease diarrhea.
