It is important to know exactly what kind of NFL jersey you want before you make any purchases. Different types of jerseys have different price tags, and it's up to you to decide what you're willing to spend.

Three Types of Jerseys

There are three types of jerseys: replica, very nice but for fans on a budget; premier, slightly better quality than replica jerseys; and authentic, which is the highest quality jersey.

Fabric

Replica jerseys use a rather thin fabric that is lightweight. Premier jerseys use a slightly heavier fabric, and authentic jerseys use the thickest and most durable fabric, which is also the most comfortable.

Graphics and Lettering

Replica jerseys have letters and numbers screen-printed on, premier jerseys have sewn-on screen-printed with single layer tackle twill, and authentic jerseys have merely sewn-on thick tackle twill.

Logos

All three types of jerseys have the Reebok Equipment patch sewn onto the front of the collar or neckline as well as the Reebok vector on each sleeve. The only difference is that the Reebok vector is embroidered on each sleeve of an authentic jersey.

Price Differences

You get what you pay for when it comes to NFL jerseys. In 2009, replica jerseys typically range from $60 to $100, premier from $110 to $200, and authentic are almost always more than $190 each.

Considerations

Remember, all jersey types show that you are a true fan. It would be silly to wear an authentic jersey for recreation. Most people who have authentic jerseys wear them very infrequently, and some people only buy them to frame them for display.
