What Are the Symptoms of Teen Drug Addiction?
If you have a teenager living in your home, knowing the symptoms of drug use can save her life. However, make sure you don't assume and accuse too quickly, as many drug-use signs could actually be normal teenage behavior. Keeping open communication with your teenager should help you determine what's going on in her life.
-
Behavior
-
Watch for frequent and rash changes in behavior. Depression may also signify drug addiction.
Appearance
-
Poor hygiene and an unkempt appearance should throw up a red flag. Also look for burns or sores on fingers, arms and lips.
-
Personal Habits
-
Be wary of changing personal habits in your teen. Overuse of eye drops to reduce redness may indicate marijuana usage. Clenching of the teeth could mean ecstasy usage.
School Work
-
If your teen shows a sharp decline in school performance, consider drug usage--especially if he shows no concern for his grades. Stay in close contact with his teachers to monitor school behavior.
Missing Items
-
If you notice missing money or alcohol, keep an eye on your teenager. Also keep an eye on your prescription medications.
Health
-
Look out for nosebleeds, nausea or drastic weight change. If you notice drastic changes in health, suggest a visit to his doctor.
