Volvo S40 Information

The Volvo S40 is an executive compact car first produced by Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo in 1995. The Ford Motor Co. as of August 2009 owns Volvo. The S40 is being assembled in the Netherlands and Thailand.

    • Volvo introduced the S40 along with the V40 in 1995 after a joint effort with Mitsubishi Motors. The vehicles were based on the Mitsubishi Carisma platform.

    Types

    • Volvo has created two generations of the S40 since 1995. The first generation vehicle was produced from 1995 to 2004; the second generation vehicle was produced beginning in 2004. The 2008 S40 model included significant upgrades from previous models.

    Features

    • The S40 Volvo is a four-cylinder, four-door sedan available with a four-speed automatic transmission or a five-seed manual. The second generation was also available as a six-speed manual.

    Potential

    • The 2005 S40 was especially well received. It was named the top brand for sales satisfaction in a study done by J.D. Power and Associates. The 2005 model was a contender for Motor Trend Car of the Year.

    • The S40 was the topic of the documentary-style advertisement "The Mystery of Dalaro" directed by Spike Jonze.
