Hospital Volunteer Description
Hospital volunteers are often called candy stripers, and many times the candy stripers are teens or young adults. They usually work in the hospital assisting patients, family members and medical staff. However, there are other ways to be a hospital volunteer.
-
Age
-
Hospital volunteers can be teens, young adults, adults and seniors. The hospital's policies determine the age at which someone can begin volunteering.
Ambassadors
-
Hospital volunteers can serve as ambassadors by being a point of contact for patients and their families. This point of contact can be as a receptionist, patient information representative or can involve transporting patients.
-
Peer-to-peer
-
Volunteers can also assist patients if they have gone through the same treatments that the patients are enduring. This can be done in directly in a hospital or in a doctor's office that is affiliated with the hospital.
Fundraiser
-
The trustees of the hospital may also be volunteers. They can be political figures, business people or socialites that raise money for the hospital.
Events
-
Hospitals host various events for children, sponsors and patients. They often need volunteers to assist with the set-up, entertain the guests and even be a host or hostess.
