Standard random access memory does not meet the demands needed for graphics applications. VRAM was developed to meet the increased demand improved graphics placed on computers.

    • VRAM allows modern computers to display images on monitors with high resolution and rapid refresh rates.

    • Multiple devices often need to access Video RAM at the same time. The dual-ported nature of VRAM allows for this.

    • When a computer user buys a new video card, the statistics printed on the video card box list a certain amount of memory on the card. Check the manufacturer's website to see if it is standard RAM dedicated solely to video usage, or if it is memory specifically designed for graphics applications.
