Foods & Drinks With Protein

Protein has become popular in American dieting with the rising frequency of high-protein diets that stress cutting back on carbohydrates. There are plenty of options from which to choose when following these plans.

  1. Poultry and Lean Meats

    • Foods from the meat family tend to be packed with protein, with chicken, turkey and steak being the most popular choices.

    Fish

    • Seafood of all kinds, provided it is not fried, is perhaps the healthiest source of protein. This includes fish such as salmon, tuna, cod and lobster. Just be sure to hold the melted butter if you are following a strict diet.

    Eggs

    • One food always listed on protein diet plans is the old-fashioned omelet. Scrambled and hard-boiled eggs, or egg substitutes, also are welcome. Ham, bacon or lean sausage will add flavor and protein without keeping you from losing weight, according to most plans.

    Nuts

    • Certain kinds of nuts are considered strong providers of protein, especially when it comes to snacking. Pecans, pistachios and peanuts are considered wise supplements to a protein-heavy diet.

    Drinks

    • Protein shakes and drink mixes are another good way to complement your protein diet. But take caution: Most diet plans stress to avoid the high-sugar count occasionally found in these types of beverages.
