Raw Food Diet & Bread

The raw food diet consists of uncooked, unprocessed plant-based foods. If you've switched to a raw food diet but you're craving bread, some options are available to fulfill that craving. All you need is some raw ingredients and a food dehydrator. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Batter

    • Practically any ingredients you can turn into batter can also be made into a bread. The batter must not be soupy or runny. A food dehydrator gives the raw bread its proper texture.

    Nuts and Seeds

    • Finely-ground nuts and seeds make an excellent bread foundation. You can use a dry blender or a coffee grinder to grind flax seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds or any other dry ingredients to make meal.

    Sprouts

    • Another raw bread foundation consists of sprouted wheat, rye, lentils or beans.

    Puree

    • Mix the meal or sprouts with a puree of pumpkin, zucchini, tomato or other vegetables or fruits.

    Additional Ingredients

    • Added touches might include honey, herbs, spices, onion flakes, chopped olives and any other favorite ingredients.

    Time Frame

    • The bread should be ready after about 12 to 15 hours in the food dehydrator. See Resources below for some links to specific raw bread recipes.
