Children's Detective Birthday Party Ideas

Detective parties are a lot of fun for boys and girls of all ages. Even the parents will have a good time and get caught up in the mystery of it all. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Invitations

    • For great detective party invitations start by marking the envelope "TOP SECRET." Then include directions that explain how to hold the invitation up to the mirror to read it.

    As They Arrive

    • As each child walks in give them a fake mustache, eyeglasses or a detective's hat. Make a pretend fingerprint ID with a poster board and makers, and "scan" each child's print before approving them for admittance.

    Games and Fun

    • Provide ink pads and paper and have them compare their finger prints to one another. Make a spy-training obstacle course, and when each child completes it give him an official spy certificate.

    Decorations

    • Decorate the party to look like a crime scene using yellow police tape. You can also make "Wanted" posters using the children's pictures.

    Favors

    • Give each child a "secret agent kit." Fill a large manila envelope with such favors as plastic handcuffs, magnifying glass, detective badge, small compass, fake glasses with nose and, of course, candy.

    Cake

    • Make a magnifying glass cake for this party. Make a round cake using a 9 in. pan and then use Twinkies for the handle.
