Rapid City, South Dakota anchors the tourism industry in the western half of the state. The city offers breathtaking views of the Rapid Creek and the Black Hills from its downtown district as well as plenty of family-friendly activities.

  1. The overwhelming majority of tourists passing through Rapid City, South Dakota visit the nearby Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, the Badlands National Park and Custer State Park.

  3. The centerpiece of Rapid City's art community is the extensive American art collection at the Dahl Arts Center. The Black Hills Symphony Orchestra plays classical numbers throughout the year.

  5. Rapid City's growth in the 21st century is evidenced by the opening of the 900,000- square-foot Rushmore Crossing shopping center across town from the Rushmore Mall.

  7. Golfers can test their skills at Rapid City's four 18-hole courses including the Golf Club at Red Rock, Meadowbrook Municipal Golf Course and Hart Ranch.
  8. Rapid City Rodeos

  9. Rapid City hosts the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo each January for travelers from around the country. In summer, the Central States Fair and Rodeo blends cowboy shows with live music.
