Business Casual Description

If you have been told that dress for a job is "business casual," you may have been a little confused as to what that meant. Business casual is less formal than formal business attire, but it is more dressy than your typical weekend wear.

  1. Men's Business Casual

    • Men can wear khakis, trousers, collared shirts, button-down shirts and leather dress shoes or loafers. Business casual does not mean a full suit, but parts of a suit are acceptable.

    Women's Business Casual

    • Women can wear khakis, trousers, dresses, skirts, blouses, sweaters, dress shoes and dress socks. Women should be careful not to wear revealing clothes or dresses and skirts that are too short.

    Determine the Level of Casual

    • If you have a basic understanding of business casual attire, and you are still unsure of what exactly to wear, ask your employer for an employee handbook that provides details, or look around to see what your coworkers are wearing.

    Why Business Casual?

    • Employers may embrace business casual dress because they want their employees to be more comfortable at work, and they want them to be able to express themselves a little more in their choice of dress.

    Tips

    • Business casual dress does not mean that you can wear just anything. Be sure that your appearance is neat so you look presentable to clients and customers.
