- The older the sitter---and the more experience---the more you will need to pay. Expect to spend more for a sitter who has an early education degree, or CPR and first aid training.
- You'll pay an extra $1 to $2 for each extra child---and another $1 or $2 if your children are infants or toddlers that require extra TLC. Also, you'll pay a few dollars extra if your child has a particular special need and you've chosen a sitter who has experience dealing with that need.
- If you live in a big urban area, you'll need to pay your sitter more than your friends who live in more rural towns.
- If you're asking your sitter to stay overnight or for a long stretch of time, expecting her to fix meals or transport your children, or hiring a sitter for a holiday, you'll need to pay more per hour.
- Before you talk to your potential sitter, ask around to see what people in the area are paying so you can be sure to settle on a fair rate for both you and your sitter.
