Grant writers are in high demand as non-profit and organizations seek government and private funding. A qualified grant writer can have a lucrative and rewarding career, as well as bring much needed funds to non-profit organizations.

    Research Funding Opportunites

  1. A qualified grant writer needs to possess stellar research skills to determine funding opportunities. Research also needs to be conducted on the organization that needs the funding. The grant writer needs to have a thorough understanding of organization's funding needs, programs, history, budget and who will benefit from the program or services.
  2. Write Grant Materials

  3. A qualified grant writer must have impeccable writing skills. Grant materials need to be clearly written to increase chances of funding the targeted program. Poor writing skills may deter reviewers of the grant from considering funding the program.
  4. Track Grant Materials

  5. A qualified grant writer should always know the status of materials. If the grant is under review internally or submitted, for example, then the grant writer should have this information documented to quickly update the client.
  6. Sell Services/Programs/Products

  7. A qualified grant write does more than state facts in writing. A qualified grant writer sells services, programs or products by stating a need and how an organization meets that need. The grant writer also demonstrates why funding should be given to this organization.
  8. Follow-Up with Potential Funders

  9. A qualified grant writer should be comfortable making contact with potential funders. The grant writer should be skilled at ensuring responses are received during the specified time frame and taking necessary actions if it is not.
