Job Description for Campaign Helpers

Political campaigns can be a great way to get involved in the democratic process and can provide eye-opening insights into the world of American politics. There are a number of positions and capacities in which to help out with a political campaign.

  1. Interns

    • Interning for a political campaign is a great way for a high school or college student to get some work experience and have a look into the inner workings of how politicians are elected.

    Volunteers

    • Volunteering is generally for people who are past school age and just want to help out with a campaign. Whether they like a certain candidate or just believe in participating, volunteers are the lifeblood of any campaign.

    Phone Banking

    • Every campaign needs their volunteers and interns to make phone calls reaching out to potential constituents. Some phone calls are meant to identify potential supporters so the campaign can gauge their chances, some are meant to recruit more volunteers and some are for fundraising purposes.

    Canvassing

    • Canvassing is similar to making calls reaching out to people but happens face-to-face and door-to-door. Campaigns need volunteers walking neighborhoods and knocking on doors to talk to people about their candidate and their stances on the issues.

    Data Organization and Entry

    • With all of the phone call and canvassing information coming into headquarters, campaigns need other volunteers to help them organize and input all of the data that comes from them so they can decide how to proceed.
