Food That Are High in Cholesterol
Cholesterol is a substance needed by the body, so that cell wall membranes are built and preserved. It also helps in the digestion of fat soluble vitamins and the production of body hormones. However, while there is good cholesterol, which is the high density lipoprotein (HDL), there is also bad cholesterol, which is the low density lipoprotein (LDL).

Your Dietary Cholesterol Goals
-
Regardless of your current cholesterol levels, you should be eating no more than 200-mg of cholesterol per day. If your LDL cholesterol is high, cut back on foods that are high in saturated fats and work on increasing your HDL levels.
Meat Products
-
Red meat can cause an increase in LDL levels, so substitute turkey or chicken for red meat. Fish high in Omega-3 fatty acids, such as sardines, albacore tuna, and salmon, increase HDL cholesterol levels.
-
Baked Goods
-
Cakes, pies, muffins, and other baked goods are usually made with eggs and oils, which mean they can increase your cholesterol level. If you bake these foods at home instead of buying them pre-made, you can make them healthier by using egg substitutes or applesauce (in place of oil).
Fried Foods
-
Any fried food is bad for your LDL cholesterol levels, so steer clear of most fast food options. Broiled, baked, or grilled foods are better choices.
Increase HDL Cholesterol
-
Avoiding high cholesterol foods can bring down LDL and total cholesterol numbers. To increase HDL, eat more healthy fats. If you add more monounsaturated fats, such as what is found in olive oil, increase your fiber intake, exercise more, drop a few pounds, and/or quit smoking, your HDL levels will improve.
