Apple's GarageBand has allowed millions of users to create and edit their own music, according to Apple.com. The newest versions of GarageBand make the software accessible to even novice musicians. However, despite GarageBand's increased user-friendliness, some new users are still left with important questions regarding GarageBand.

  1. Helping a new musician

    • As part of GarageBand's overall attempt at broad user application, the program features tutorial videos designed to help new musicians learn how to play their instruments.

    Starting a project

    • After toying with sample "projects" and practicing using video lessons, users interested in recording music to a new project must click "File" and "New" to create a new project.

    Importing an audio file

    • To import previously recorded audio, drag and drop the file onto the GarageBand project screen from your Mac desktop or folders.

    Recording using iMic

    • Plug in the iMic as usual, then open GarageBand. From the GarageBand menu, click on "Preferences" and "Audio/Midi," then choose "iMic USB audio adapter." If this does not work, your iMic settings must be adjusted following Apple's "Recording with iMic in GarageBand" page.

    Playing GarageBand tracks

    • You can export GarageBand tracks by clicking "Share," then selecting "Export Song to Disc." After exporting, you can add the track to other audio devices for portable play.
