Famous Water Fountains

Water fountains have a long and interesting history. Dating as far back as Ancient Greece, where they were built over natural springs, and moving forward to the present, people have always been fascinated by them. Today, many famous and impressive fountains exist and draw tourists from all over.

Trevi Fountain

The Trevi Fountain, commissioned in 1732, is the most famous fountain in Italy. Its central figure is Neptune, god of the sea and horses, and it supplies all the fountains in the historic center of Rome with water.

Bellagio Fountain

The Bellagio Fountain in Las Vegas is one of the most famous sites in a city that's overflowing with them. The fountain plays music and has a synchronized water show to each of the songs it plays.

Peterhof Palace Fountains

Beginning in the 1700s, Peter the Great began constructing the buildings and fountains at Peterhof Palace in St. Petersburg, which were expanded over the centuries. Today, it is known as the "capital of fountains," with more than 64 in its network.

Chatsworth House Fountains

The garden at Chastworth House in Derbyshire is where you will find the most famous fountains in England. Here, the 300-year-old Cascade has a willow tree fountain, a trough waterfall and a water-powered sculpture.

Manneken Pis

The Manneken Pis, in Brussels, is the smallest of these famous fountains, consisting of a small mannequin of a young boy. This boy, however, has been around for centuries, has been the subject of theft time and time again, and has been dressed up in more than 600 costumes over the years.
