With such a wide variety of camera lenses available for personal use, maintaining your existing lenses will allow you to expend your money on new equipment instead of on replacements. Most camera lenses can last for many years and take exceptional photos throughout their lives if you carefully clean them on a regular basis.

  1. Function

    • Regularly cleaning your camera lens enables you to take clear, beautiful pictures, and it can also make your equipment last longer.

    Significance

    • Camera lenses get dirty no matter the environment in which they are used. In extremely unclean or wet conditions, it is obvious that a lens needs maintenance. However, lenses should also be cleaned regularly to remove build-up that occurs from normal use.

    Considerations

    • Before your clean your lens, decide what you're trying to remove from it. Use a blower and brush to remove dust or other particles. Using your breath and a lens cloth to clean smudges is a good alternative to using expensive, harsh chemicals.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Keep your lens from getting too dirty by not touching it with your fingers and always using the lens cap when you're not taking pictures.

    Warning

    • Using too much pressure when cleaning your lens can damage it. Also, be sure to use professional lens cleaning cloths. Anything else may be too abrasive and scratch your lens.
