In New Jersey, massage therapists are certified by the Massage, Bodywork and Somatic Therapy Examining Committee. Therapists must renew their certifications every two years.

  1. CPR

    • Therapists must have and maintain a current cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.

    Anatomy and Physiology

    • Therapists must log 100 hours of coursework in anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.

    Ethics

    • Therapists must log eight hours of coursework in ethics and law, and submit two affidavits of good moral character.

    Theory and Practice

    • Therapists must log 225 hours of coursework in the theory and practice of their field.

    Supervised Practice

    • Therapists must log 100 hours of supervised clinical practice.

    Electives

    • Therapists must log 70 hours of elective courses related to bodywork.
