Signs & Symptoms of Ovarian Cyst

An ovarian cyst is a sac of fluid that develops somewhere on the tissue of the ovary. For most women, this type of cyst causes no problem, and signs of the cyst's presence never manifest, but it is possible for problems to arise.

Changes in Menstruation

One of the more common symptoms of an ovarian cyst is a change in menstruation. This may include irregular periods where your flow is heavier or lighter than normal as well as missed menstrual cycles.

Pain

Another fairly common symptom of an ovarian cyst is pain in the pelvic area, but it may spread into the groin, thighs and back.

Digestive Issues

An ovarian cyst can cause digestive issues such as nausea, vomiting and abdominal pressure or cramping.

Bowel Issues

You may experience issues with your bowel movements, suffering pain and discomfort while passing stool.

Bladder Issues

You may have difficulties emptying your bladder of urine.

Fever

If the cyst has ruptured, you can suffer a fever, usually 100 degrees F and above, accompanied by rapid breathing, dizziness and clammy skin.
