Uses of Shells

Seashells provide protection and a home for many marine lifeforms. Shells wash up every day along the seashores of beaches around the world. Next time you go on vacation, take a few home with you and recycle the empty marine critters' homes into something useful for your own house.

  1. Picture Frames

    • Clean off shells you've found on the beach and glue them onto a plain picture frame for decoration. Add glitter or neon colored paint to make your shells a bit more eye-catching.

    Glass Jars

    • Fill a clear jar with shells and top it off with a ribbon to create an inexpensive bathroom accessory. Use glass bowl instead of a jar and place shells inside.

    Journal

    • RealSimple.com suggests gluing a large shell to the front a journal or notebook. A sturdy, fabric-bound book works best.

    Jewelry Storage

    • A simple, curved shell creates an instant earring holder. Glue shells to a thin piece of wood to provide a row of earring holders for every pair in your collection.

    Earrings

    • While you're storing your earrings, why not make a pair for yourself? Attach a hook from an earring kit to a shell by drilling a small hole or using a hot glue gun if the shell is too fragile.
