The Life in the UK test must be taken and successfully passed before applying for United Kingdom citizenship or indefinite leave to remain in the U.K.

    The Test

  1. The Life in the UK test consists of 24 questions and lasts 45 minutes. The test is computerized and must be taken at a local testing center.
  2. Subjects

  3. The Life in the UK test covers a wide range of subjects concerning U.K. society, government, institutions, laws and everyday life.
  4. Languages

  5. The Life in the UK test is primarily available in English. But those in Wales and Scotland can take a Welsh or Scottish Gaelic version.
  6. Study

  7. One can study for the Life in the UK test by purchasing the official handbook "Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship." An accompanying study guide and practice question book are also available. Test takers can also take citizenship classes at a local college
  8. Pass

  9. To pass, the test taker must have answered at least 75 percent of the questions correctly.
