Loneliness is an all-consuming feeling. It feeds on itself and can leave the person desperate and in despair. There are many reasons why a person can become lonely. Those reasons can come from within the person or can occur because of major life changes. Regardless of how it happens, please seek assistance from a counselor or other professional sources.

  1. Isolation

    • Those who are lonely are often isolated due to a family circumstances (e.g., abuse) or from moving away from family to attend college or begin a new job.

    Guilt

    • Lonely people may also feel guilty over a past incident that they caused or happened to them.

    Self-esteem

    • Some may not feel worthy of having friendships or relationships. They have self-esteem issues that cause them to think less of themselves.

    Judgemental

    • Sometimes those who are shy feel that they will be judged by others as not being smart enough or attractive enough, among other factors.

    Lack of True Friendships

    • Not having someone to share personal feelings with can create a sense of loneliness.
