Ferry Travel to Ireland

Ferries are an ideal way to get a car from continental Europe or the other British Isles to Ireland. Irish Ferries and Stena Line offer short trips from England, Scotland and Wales, as well as ferries from France to Ireland.

England to Ireland

The Stena Line and Irish Ferries operate out of Holyhead and sail to Dublin and Dun Laoghaire. These short journeys take about two hours.

Wales to Ireland

In Wales, Stena Line ferries depart from Fishguard and Irish Ferries from nearby Pembroke. Both go to Rosslare and take about four hours.

France to Ireland

Overnight ferries leave from Cherbourg and Roscoff to arrive in Rosslare, Ireland. These ferries offer restaurants, bars and sleeping cabins, with luxurious amenity packages available.

To Northern Ireland

Stena Line operates routes to Northern Ireland: Fleetwood, England, to Larne and Stranraer, Scotland, to Belfast.

Rail and Sail

"Rail and Sail" packages are available from ferry companies for those without cars, but cheap train plus ferry transport can also be purchased at any rail station in Britain. Trains are timed to arrive and depart at times appropriate and convenient for ferry passengers.
