Israel uses 220 volt current and a unique plug shape. If you do not have a U.S. to Israel voltage converter, most Israeli electronic shops carry them. Prices range from 50 to 200 shekels ($12 to $50).

Go Ahead and Drink the Water

Israeli municipal water standards are equivalent to U.S. standards. Israeli tap water is clean and safe, but does have a high mineral content. Travelers can also choose from a variety of bottled waters.

It's tempting to put your bags aside to get a closer look at things of interest. Don't do this in Israel. Unattended bags attract suspicion, and the police are summoned to check them out.

Arrange Travel Health Insurance

Israel's health care system includes emergency care available to anyone in the country. Patients are required to have health insurance coverage. Foreign visitors can purchase travel insurance through their health insurer or travel agent.

Keep Your ID on Hand

Israeli law requires all residents and visitors to carry ID. Foreign visitors should carry a valid passport, with a current entry stamp. Police officers can stop individuals and request identification.
