What Are the Treatments for Male Yeast Infections?
The yeast organism Candida albicans is responsible for yeast infections, including male yeast infections in the groin area. Yeast infections are quite common but fairly easy to treat using readily available treatment methods.

Symptoms of Male Yeast Infection
-
Candida albicans or common skin yeast is normally present in small amounts all over your body, including the male genital area or groin. Overgrowth of yeast is known as candidiasis. When it affects men, it often goes unnoticed, but when symptoms occur, they are similar to those of "jock itch," and may include irritation, itching, rash and burning on the skin of the groin.
Keep the Groin Dry
-
A warm, moist environment will allow the yeast to proliferate; keeping the groin completely dry is the most important way to prevent and eliminate an overgrowth of yeast. Wear clean, loose-fitting cotton underwear daily, and ensure that your groin is completely dry before dressing after a shower or workout.

Moisture-Absorbing Powder
-
Apply powder containing moisture-absorbing material such as talc or cornstarch to the groin area after showering and drying to absorb sweat and moisture and help keep the area dry at all times. Wash the groin area daily to remove excess powder, and apply a new layer.
Topical Astringents
-
Apply witch hazel or vinegar topically with a clean cloth, letting the area dry thoroughly after application. Both act as an astringent, helping to relieve itching and burning and aiding in drying out skin tissue to eliminate and prevent yeast growth. Vinegar also creates a slightly acidic environment, which reduces yeast growth.
Topical Antifungals
-
Topical antifungals such as tolnaftate, miconazole and clotrimazole are available without a prescription. Apply creams, sprays or medicated powders to your groin area to kill the Candida infection. Be sure to apply these to clean, dry skin, according to the directions on the label.
Probiotics
-
Consumption of products containing Lactobacillus bacteria, such as yogurt or probiotic diet supplements, may help replenish normal bacteria in your body and reduce Candida growth. You also can apply plain, unflavored yogurt diluted with plain water directly to the groin area; leave it on for about 15 minutes and then wash it off thoroughly.
