Neurosurgeons or brain surgeons are medical doctors who perform operations on the human brain. According to Payscale.com, the average salary of a brain surgeon depends largely upon how many years of experience he has in the field and the type of employer for which she works.

    Entry Level

  1. In July 2009, brain surgeons with less than one year of work experience earned an average salary of between $68,000 and $261,905.
  2. 1 to 4 Years of Experience

  3. Brain surgeons with one to four years of work experience earned annual salaries of between $121,217 and $408,273 as of July 2009.
  4. 5 to 9 Years of Experience

  5. The average salary range for brain surgeons with five to nine years of experience was between $200,000 and $426,104 in July 2009.
  6. 10 to 19 Years of Experience

  7. The income of brain surgeons with 10 to 19 years of experience in the field was between $194,971 and $503,098 in July 2009.
  8. Most Experienced

  9. Once brain surgeons achieved 20 years of work experience or more, their average salary increased to between $265,000 and $544,961 as of July 2009.
  10. Employer Type

  11. In July 2009, the highest-paying employers of brain surgeons were nonprofit organizations, where doctors earned maximum salaries of $579,310, while the federal government was the lowest-paying employer with a maximum salary of $199,161.
