Downloadables for the iPod
IPods are often marketed as MP3 players, but in actuality they are capable of running different types digital files beyond simple MP3s. Many downloadable file options exist to supplement any iPod with the latest digital media and programs.

In addition to MP3s, iPod users are able to download and play AIFF, uncompressed WAV, M4A, M4P and M4B files, according to Apple.
Video

IPods are capable of displaying MP4 videos. While this format is not the most common among downloadable videos, free converter software (see Resources) exists to help render files compatible with the iPod.

Commonly used JPG image files can be downloaded directly onto the iPod for viewing or even as a "desktop background."
Web Apps

Web applications, or "Web apps" as they are commonly called, are downloadable programs that allow iPod Touch users to perform specific Internet functions on their iPods, such as instantly viewing the weather, getting maps and checking e-mail.
Offline Apps

Many iPod apps are also designed to work offline. Common offline downloadables include games and screensavers. As with web apps, these downloads are only usable on the iPod Touch, not on the iPod Classic.
