Flea Treatments for Kittens Under 12 Weeks
Not every type of flea treatment is going to be appropriate for kittens that are younger than 12 weeks old. There are flea treatments that are appropriate for kittens that have no reached the 12-week mark.
-
Topical Flea Treatments
-
Advantage, Frontline and Revolution are the three most popular types of topical flea treatments. They come with a minimum age requirement of 8 weeks or older.
Dish Soap and Flea Comb
-
This is the safest method for younger kittens that have not yet reached 8 weeks old and involves using gentle dish soap and warm water to bathe the kitten, a flea comb to remove eggs and fleas left over, and a warm blanket to dry the kitten afterward.
-
Borax
-
Sprinkling borax powder on any carpeted areas the kittens have been known to frequent will kill fleas hiding in the carpet. Adding regular table salt to the mix will dry out and kill flea eggs.
Flea Bombing
-
Because the number of treatment options available for kittens younger than 12 weeks is limited, you might consider trying flea bombing, which involves treating the home for fleas while the pets and people are not in it.
Flea Dip Products
-
Most professional flea dip and flea shampoo products such as Ectokyl should not be used on a kitten younger than 12 weeks old.
