Air Travel to Frankfurt
The Frankfurt Airport has dubbed itself Airport City, a brash but not unsubstantiated claim for Germany's most important air hub. Although many international travelers pass through this common layover stop, the airport also provides convenient public transportation links into Frankfurt and beyond. A variety of shops and restaurants and a handful of fully reclining lounge chairs make long layovers here a little easier.

Entertainment and Sightseeing
-
The airport itself sports two casinos, but tourists with long layovers can also go from the air terminal to Frankfurt's historical Romer district in 20 minutes. Goethe's birthplace, Roman ruins, and the former emperor's palace are all within walking distance along the picturesque Main River.
Ground Travel Connections
-
Some Frankfurt hotels have regular courtesy shuttles, which pick up in the same area as buses and taxis. Follow the signs to the airport's train station for rail to Frankfurt's central terminal to make regional connections.
Announcements
-
As a warning, the central waiting area is noisy and special announcements may not be heard. Travelers should closely watch the departure boards for flight updates.
