How Often Should You Clean Hamster Cage?

Hamsters groom themselves many times a day and can often be seen wiping down their faces. But they have to rely on their owner to keep their habitat clean. Regular maintenance goes a long way toward ensuring your hamster's optimal health. Illnesses, including respiratory problems, can be avoided by maintaining a clean, dry cage.

Time Frame

Clean the litter daily to remove areas made wet by urination. Clean the entire cage, including all of its contents, once a week to remove additional soiled bedding and stale food.

Most harsh household cleaning products are poisonous to hamsters. Warm water and a mild soap, such as dish-washing liquid, works best.
