What Is Grape Juice Good For?

According to the Mayo Clinic, recent studies suggest that Concord grape juice has the same heart benefits as red wine. Red and purple grape juices also reduce blood clot risks, decrease LDL ("bad" cholesterol") and prevent damage to the heart's blood vessels.

Blood Circulation

A study published in the journal Circulation found that people who had coronary artery disease and drank purple grape juice for 2 weeks had increased elasticity in their blood vessels.

Brain

A study conducted by researchers from the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University found that Concord grape juice reverses the neuronal and behavioral aging in rats due to a complex mix of polyphenols.

Cell Damage Repair

Grape juice antioxidants help prevent and repair cell damage. For example, a study published in the Journal of Medicinal Foods found that Concord grape juice compounds protected healthy breast cells from DNA damage when exposed to an environmental carcinogen.

Cholesterol

Grape juice contains a high dosage of flavonoids. Flavonoids boost levels of HDL ("good" cholesterol) and decrease the risk of coronary artery disease.

Heart Health

Red and purple grape skins contain a flavonoid called resveratrol. This powerful antioxidant has many heart-healthy benefits including lowering blood pressure and possibly treating type 2 diabetes.
