Effects
-
Few people realize that living in a cluttered environment can harm health. Mess creates stress, and filling up space with too many possessions contributes to a stagnant life. Get rid of all items that are broken, in need of repair, don't fit or no longer serve a purpose. This creates the space necessary for the flow of positive energy and increased abundance.
Everything Must Have a Home
-
Place items used every day in the same place, every time. A small table near the front door is the perfect place for keys, a cell phone, a purse or anything else that might be needed in a flash on your way out.

Define Space
-
Arrange furniture and accessories to clearly delineate each area's purpose. For example, the bedroom should be used for relaxing and sleeping. Remove exercise equipment, work desks, bills or anything else not associated with sleep.
Tools for Effective Organizing
-
The first line of defense against clutter is prevention. Fortunately, there are many inexpensive ways to keep things tidy.
Baskets are inexpensive, come in a variety of materials and sizes and can be purchased nearly anywhere. Stash rented videos, compact discs, DVDs, USB drives or cords near your electronics in baskets of straw, plastic or wood, ready for retrieval.
Boxes are great for keeping miscellaneous items out of sight. Like baskets, boxes can be found nearly anywhere. Better yet, decorating boxes can become a fun family project. Just select a favorite color, cut construction paper to the desired size and glue onto the box surface. Self-adhesive contact paper, with decorative patterns, also works well to cover boxes. Personalize with stickers or stamps and ink.
Shelves allow for efficient storage. Choose a unit with adjustable shelves. Place DVDs, VHS tapes or compact discs on shelves, organized alphabetically by performer or by genre. Books can be grouped by author, subject or size. They also can be stacked and lined up, depending on space. For visual interest and to personalize your shelf, add candles, framed photographs or collectible items.
Jars are very versatile, and the clear material makes it easy to see pens, pencils and highlighters. Keep writing utensils near your desk or the door, ready to grab at a moment's notice. Store screws, buttons, tacks and paper clips in smaller, lidded jars to prevent spilling.
Belt holders and hooks can be placed inside closets or over doors. Hang belts, necklaces, bracelets and hats in an easy to reach place. Everything you need to get ready is within arm's reach; no more tangled chains or hunting around.
