Body Parts of Lady Bugs

The parts of a ladybug are small and intricate, but all of these parts play an incredible role in how these insects function.

  1. Head

    • The head includes the eyes and the brain.

    Antennae

    • Ladybugs' antennae are like their senses. Touch, smell and taste are the main things that come with having antennae.

    Pronotum

    • The pronotum is located behind the head of the ladybug. This part is similar to a helmet; it protects the head and sometimes has spots on it.

    Spots

    • Spots on a ladybug help to identify what type of ladybug you are seeing. There are 5,000 species of ladybugs, some red with black spots and many orange with black spots.

    Elytra

    • The elytra is a hard-shell type that covers its thin wings. Ladybugs' wings are so thin that they are see-through.

    Legs

    • Legs are an important part because they help ladybugs travel and function properly.
