Acne Skin Care During Pregnancy
Acne can be triggered by an overabundance of hormones in the body. Because hormone production increases as a result of pregnancy, many women experience acne flare-ups during this time. Typical acne treatments can contain harsh chemicals that pregnant women may not want to expose their child to, such as benzoyl peroxide. But there are natural acne treatments that can safely be used by pregnant women. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Baking Soda
-
Baking soda kills acne-causing bacteria, and can be used as both an exfoliating scrub and as a toner. The baking soda is mixed with a little water and applied to the skin before rinsing well with water.
Tea Tree Oil
-
Tea tree oil has been shown in studies to be as effective as benzoyl peroxide in treating acne. Tea tree oil can be bought in the undiluted form, and in soaps and creams.
-
Urine Therapy
-
Urine therapy has been used for centuries to treat skin problems. Urine, applied directly to the skin and allowed to dry, is sterile and extremely beneficial in treating and healing acne lesions.
Calamine Lotion
-
Calamine lotion dries up large, cyst-like acne blemishes quickly. The lotion is applied directly to the acne spots and left on overnight.
Olive Oil
-
Olive oil helps flush dirt and impurities from the skin without irritating the skin or causing more breakouts. One set of instructions calls for applying 1 tsp. olive oil to the skin and laying a hot washcloth over the face, then wiping off the excess oil after the cloth cools.
