What Maintenance Should Be Done on a Car at 100,000 Miles

Every car needs regular maintenance. Most cars have specific requirements that are due at 100,000 miles.

Oil Change

Most cars will need an oil change at 100,000 miles. The oil change is the most important part of maintaining any vehicle and is recommended every 3,000 miles or three months.

Fluids

Often a transmission flush, coolant flush or brake fluid flush will be due at this time. Dirt and debris can settle in these systems and cause corrosion and clogging. Also, automotive fluids have additives that can lose their effectiveness over time and need to be replaced regularly.

Tires and Brakes

A tire rotation might be due. Tires should be rotated and checked for bulges or uneven wear. While the tires are off, the brakes can also easily be checked.

Tune-up and Miscellaneous Inspections

Tune-up work may be suggested, which could include spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap, rotor and PVC valve. Some cars will also need oxygen sensors replaced. A certified mechanic can tell you exactly what you need and perform any required inspections of the vehicle, including checking filters, belts and hoses.
