Job Ideas for Stay-at-Home Mothers

Motherhood is undoubtedly one of the hardest jobs out there. However, most women in today's society often need to work, as well, in order to have a financially stable home. Working has become a priority for most mothers, but many want to find the balance between a career and motherhood. That's why many moms opt for stay-at-home jobs.

  1. Home Businesses and Contracting

    • While owning a business or becoming a contractor takes a lot of planning, it is a great way for a stay-at-home mom to earn income. If you obtain the right licensing for your home, an in-home day care, bakery or hair salon can allow you to do what you love while raising children at the same time.

    Writing, Editing and Transcription

    • If you have the credentials to be a freelance writer, editor or transcriptionist, there are many opportunities to get work-from-home assignments in this field. Most companies want quality deliverables, and they aren't too concerned with where or how you do the work, as long as it's in on time.

    Data-Entry Jobs

    • There are some companies that are willing to allow mothers to work from home. If you apply to an administrative assistant/data-entry position and decide that you want to work from home after you've trained, these fields may allow you to do so.

    Customer Service, Research and Sales

    • Other stay-at-home work includes research, sales and customer service opportunities. These opportunities require workers to have proper phone and Internet connections, as well as an upbeat, customer-friendly attitude over the phone and through email interactions.

    Home School Tutor

    • Mothers can turn their love of educating others into a lucrative home-based business. If you have an education degree and can home-school a small group of children (between one to five students works best with small group instruction), home-school tutoring can pay anywhere from $15 to $60 per hour.

    Beware of the Scams

    • There are lots of work-from-home scams geared toward stay-at-home mothers. Be sure to thoroughly research the opportunity and make sure that you are going to get a legitimate paycheck with no strings attached.
