MP3 to WAV Conversion

MP3 and WAV are two different formats of audio computer files. MP3 files are mainly used on CDs and iTunes files, while WAV files are primarily used with Windows Media Player. To transfer files from one such medium to the other will require a conversion of the files from one format to the other.

  1. Software

    • Converting files from MP3 to WAV requires an audio conversion software program. There are many such programs available for download (see Resources).

    Function

    • The conversion application has a command that reads "output," "profile," "add task" or something similar. This is where the WAV format is selected to convert the file into.

    Importing

    • The original MP3 files are imported into the application with its "import" or "add file" command. The file names will appear in the program's main list window.

    Location

    • The converted files need a location on the computer to be saved to. The "output" or "destination" command lets the user select the place on the computer's desktop or hard drive that the file will be saved to after clicking the "convert" button.

    Effects

    • Many people will actually choose the opposite procedure of converting WAV files to MP3. This is mainly due to MP3 being more widely used and more compressed for smaller storage space.
