I delivered pizzas 20 years ago, when I was a teenager, and a little over a year ago, took it on again as a second job with my local Pizza Hut. It really has become even worse over that period of time. We also were dropped to the tip credit system and it really has made the job not worth it. Our drivers earn about $5.50-$6.00 per hour when on delivery and $7.25 while you are in the store. Originally it seemed like a decent second job, making what felt like $20-25 per hour. However, again it isn't what it seems, because of the wear and tear on your car. Tips do tend to be up and down, but more people than you would think don't tip at all, and I am considered one of our most courteous, great with the customer drivers. Luckily I have a decent car and have not had many repairs, however the gas money they give you for reimbursement in most cases is not really even enough to cover your real gas expense, not even taking the wear and tear into account. They even recently dropped our gas reimbursement without even warning us. Also, I am lucky to live and work in a nicer area, so I have not had any real safety issues, nor any of my co-workers, but it is something to consider before taking a job doing delivery. All in all, you can make a few bucks, but I would recommend against a job in pizza delivery if you can avoid it.

This is old news. Now pizza delivery drivers [in FL] earn $4.29/hr. when on delivery, and $7.25 when in the restaurant doing side work. The "tip credit" system means they use the tips people hand to US for our service to compliment the [delivery] wages so that when we report OUR tips it all adds up to the local or federal minimum wages. It's a scam. The job is not as good as it once was. The tip credit system should be reverted. Employers have no business digging into their employees tip money.

Not sure how old this is, but the major chains have switched drivers to "tip credit", which makes this a sub-minimum wage job.
