What Supplies Do You Need to Survive an Earthquake?

The aftermath of an earthquake can leave you wishing you had been more prepared. Gather supplies and keep them in a safe place beforehand. Remember to keep batteries fresh in flashlights and canned food expiration dates current. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Water

    • Keep at least a one-week supply of water for each family member. Allow a gallon of water per person, per day.

    Food and Can Opener

    • Store a week's supply of packaged or canned food per person. Food that does not require refrigeration after opening is best. Food that requires no heating is also preferred. You will also need a can opener for canned foods.

    Grill or Stove

    • A propane grill or stove will be needed if the gas or electricity is off. Keep in your survival supplies the things needed to operate the grill or stove. Operate the grill only outside where there is adequate ventilation.

    Clothing and Blankets

    • Every family member should have extra clothing and a blanket.

    Fire Extinguisher

    • Keep a maintained fire extinguisher with your supplies. Purchase an extinguisher that works on all types of fires.

    First-Aid Kit

    • A first-aid kit with the general basics of bandages, antiseptics and other supplies is a necessity. Also include a first-aid manual inside the kit.
